BECKLEY - Every October awareness breast cancer comes to the forefront, but also a month

to call attention to domestic violence.
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, students at Concordia University and

people from the Beckley Correctional Center helped the Women's Resource Center to tie

ribbons and violet blue light in the trees and lights Street in downtown Beckley. Purple

ribbons symbolize domestic violence awareness, while the blue ribbons mean sexual

assault awareness.
Women's Resource Center Rauma Amanda victim advocate, said the tapes used to be a

reminder of domestic violence remains a problem.
"We just want to put in your mind that domestic violence in our community and indeed to

create awareness on the issue of domestic violence, and to honor the victims that we had

this year that lost their lives due to violence home "which, he said.
The project of the tape to tie would be difficult without the help of volunteers from

the center.
"Violence at Concordia University in the class of the United States has been teaming up

with us over the past two semesters I've had the class," said Rauma. "They have a really

good effort to raise money for us and they are responsible to go out and put the tapes

up, and that were responsible for the creation of the cabin in Chile the night, too."
